Pomerania
About the region
Pomorskie Voivodeship, located in northern Poland by the Baltic Sea, spans 18,293 km² with a population of 2.3 million (as of June 2020). Its coastal position, key transport routes, and diverse landscape make it ideal for relaxation and economic growth. Known for its open-minded, hospitable people, Pomorskie exemplifies peaceful coexistence and cultural diversity.
Our intercultural integration approach
During the course of the project, Pomorskie established a multi-stakeholder platform, able to unify representatives from public administration, culture, education, and local NGOs, counting a total 50 representatives from 37 different entities.
Regular meetings brought to the development and adoption of a new intercultural integration strategy, titled “Strategic Plan for the Intercultural Integration of Migrants in Pomerania Voivodeship”, in April 2024. The plan prioritises culture, education, social policy, and the labour market, transitioning from ad hoc activities to standardised systems. Activities are designed to be accessible and tailored, fostering an intercultural space and aiming for an efficient and transparent integration system.
More information about the strategy can be found in the document “Building Inclusive Societies: Regional Strategies for Intercultural Integration”, while the original version in the local language is accessible at “Get the Tool” page of the EU-Belong website.
Looking ahead
Pomorskie decided to start the implementation of the established strategy with the pilot project “Intercultural Plot Twist: Inclusion courses with and for newcomers”. A detailed evaluation will be performed before the end of the project.
