ISTITUTO COOPERAZIONE ECONOMICA INTERNAZIONALE (ICEI)

  • Presentation of your region and organisation:

ICEI was established in Milan in 1977. It is actively involved in actions of solidarity, in international cooperation for development, in research and in training. It was founded as a response to those citizens who wanted to discuss and understand the roots of global inequalities. Subsequently, ICEI focused on the development cooperation, committed to helping vulnerable populations of the countries in the south of the world. Finally, ICEI became glocal, when it was included a component of cooperation in Europe, Italy & Milan. Their projects include a wide network of partners who are key elements to be involved in any process of change: communities, local authorities, university/research centres and business. The mission of ICEI is working with people in local communities to improve socioeconomic conditions and promote inclusive, equitable and sustainable societies based on an active participation. ICEI implements different types of initiatives in Italy and around the world in the fields of Intercultural Citizenship, Labour Inclusion, Sustainable Agriculture & Responsible Tourism. Priority targets are the most vulnerable groups, especially women and young people.

  • Presentation of your ongoing work on integration:

It is the right time to build a society that is more equitable, sustainable and inclusive. ICEI promotes intercultural citizenship, by strengthening human interaction, building bridges across cultures and mixing diversities. Main purpose is promoting cohesive communities, safeguarding rights and facilitating access to them, enabling all individuals to offer their contribution to the society they live in, recognizing/appreciating the diversity and the advantage it uncovers. We do this by building strong relationships with local authorities, as they are the entity with a very close contact with the population, to accompany them in the adoption of the intercultural approach, by strengthening civil society organizations and directly involving the new generations. ICEI is coordinator of the Italian Network Cities of Dialogue, a group of cities belonging to Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities Program, with whom ICEI has solid collaboration.

We are currently running a wide range of interventions in the field of interculturality in Italy & Europe, covering anti-discrimination strategies, migrant inclusion, young people mobilization/participation, such as the ITA.CA Project (Italy) and the NET-IDEA Project (15 Cities of 6 European Countries).

  • Your role and expectations for the EU-BELONG Project:

ICEI is the technical partner in charge of the monitoring system, with a special attention on the implementation of the pilot projects, and a member of the Advisory Committee. As part of the ICC Program and coordinator of the Italian Network, our interest is the opportunity to test and validate the intercultural approach at a regional level.
